Marsch was handed an uphill task from day one due to the teams road heavy schedule to start the season. With only three of their first 10 matches at home, they know they have to make those games count. So far theyve done just that, taking four points from two games played at Olympic Stadium. It has been a testing time for everyone involved, and will continue to be, but so far the Impact players have shown there is plenty of character within the squad. For Toronto FC, it was a familiar story. Individual errors led to Montreals two goals, and Torontos cause was not helped when Logan Emory was sent off midway through the second half for a challenge on Sanna Nyassi. Ironically, Toronto seemed to show more going forward with ten men than they had with 11, but as they chased the game, the Reds left more space at the back for the Impact to exploit. Montreals second goal came within seconds of a Toronto attack with Mapp sending a wonderful cross-field pass from deep in his own half to find Andrew Wenger at the opposite end of the pitch. Wenger has been praised highly by Marsch in recent weeks and the coach had faith in the ability of the draft pick to influence the game, bringing him on as a second half substitute with the lead still 1-0. Wenger stepped inside Ty Harden with ease and planted the ball past Milos Kocic to score his first professional goal. It was a landmark moment for the MAC Hermann Trophy winner, but it also gave Montreal a precious second goal in their quest for a first league win. Wengers goal proved necessary as Toronto pulled one back inside the final few minutes. On an afternoon of few positives for Aron Winters team, the Toronto coach will have been happy to see Danny Koevermans get off the mark for 2012. Koevermans scored eight goals in 10 MLS appearances last season, but hadnt found the net through the opening month of the new campaign. At the end of the first half the Dutch forward was denied at point blank range by Montreal goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, a chance that Winter described as a "must-score" opportunity. He pointed to Koevermans needing a goal to get a boost in confidence and will be hoping that the floodgates will now start to open. With Torontos defensive frailties, its vital that the goals flow at the other end of the pitch. Scoring wasnt too much of an issue in the CONCACAF Champions League games against LA Galaxy and Santos Laguna, but Koevermans goal in the 88th minute of the teams fourth league game was just their second of the year in MLS. Torontos losing start has left Head Coach Aron Winter once again talking about the need to "change some things." Speaking after the match he said "its clear its not good and I dont accept it anymore." It was the end of a long week for his team, but Winters lack of available quality depth led to many of the same players taking to the pitch that had played in Mexico three days earlier. The fact the expansion Impact had a bench much deeper in MLS experience than TFC highlights the issue further. Five of Montreals substitutes had a combined total of 672 career MLS appearances. The other two players were a Canadian international with over a decade of matches in Europe and the first overall pick in the 2012 SuperDraft. Besides Eric Avila, who has made 18 starts in a total of 74 MLS games, Torontos other six substitutes combined for a total of 30 league games. There is some good news around the corner with influential Captain Torsten Frings nearing a return from a hamstring injury and central defender Adrian Cann also closing in on a comeback. But the clubs long suffering fans will hope to see a more immediate turnaround when they host Chivas USA at BMO Field on Saturday.
