CLEVELAND -- The Browns arent letting Alex Mack walk away freely. The team locked the free agent Pro Bowl centre into a one-year, $10.039 million contract on Monday by designating him as their transition player. By using the transition tag instead of the franchise tag, Cleveland will have five days to match any offer to Mack made by other teams when free agency opens on March 11. If the Browns had used their franchise tag, Mack would have made $11.654 million next season. In the meantime, the Browns are expected to try and sign Mack to a long-term contract. The 6-foot-4, 311-pounder has been one of Clevelands best and most dependable players since the Browns drafted him in the first round in 2009. He has not missed one offensive play in five years, a run of 4,998 consecutive snaps. Mack may want to play elsewhere. He could draw serious interest as a free agent and he may be dismayed with the teams direction following another coaching change and front-office purge this winter. The Browns have gone just 23-57 since Mack arrived. The decision to make Mack their transition player also means Pro Bowl safety T.J. Ward is now a free agent. Ward had a solid 2013 season. He started all 16 games and made a career-high 129 tackles with two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. With Ward seemingly no longer in their plans, the Browns could pursue Buffalo free safety Jairus Byrd, who was not tagged by the Bills. A three-time Pro Bowler, Byrd could be reunited in Cleveland with new Browns coach Mike Pettine, who spent last season as Buffalos defensive co-ordinator. Byrd turned down a multiyear offer from the Bills. He played under a one-year, $6.9 million franchise tag last year. The Browns have over $55 million in salary-cap room. ROOKIE BLACKHAWKSIts unusual for contenders to get quality minutes from rookie call-ups, but the Blackhawks have been receiving more than adequate play from the likes of C Andrew Shaw and RW Jimmy Hayes over the last month. Brian Orakpo Titans Jersey . The Angels have won six of their last seven games, putting them a half-game ahead of the Oakland Athletics in the division standings. You can watch the game live on TSN at 7pm et/4pm pt. Los Angeles dropped two of three at home to Boston from Aug. Dorial Green-Beckham Titans Jersey . "Roberto has a contract and is preparing to be at training camp," Luongos new agent Pat Brisson of CAA told TSNs Farhan Lalji on Thursday. However, Brisson and CAA partner J.LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries and brakewoman Jennifer Ciochetti are the team to beat at the midway point of the womens competition at the bobsled world championships. The Canadians lead with a time of one minute 54.17 seconds after two heats over the treacherous 20-turn track at Mount Van Hoevenberg. That was 0.41 seconds ahead of Germanys Sandra Kiriasis and Petra Lammert, who were just 0.09 ahead of Americans Elana Meyers and Katie Eberling. Humphries set a blistering pace on her second run, finishing in 57.07 seconds on an overcast day with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark. That was just off the track record of 56.90 set by Kiriasis in 2010 and put her solidly in the drivers seat for the gold. "Its still about consistency. Anything can happen in this race," said Humphries. "Tomorrow is a whole new day. Well see. As long as we keep doing what were doing, everything will fall into place." The final two runs are scheduled for Saturday night. World Cup champion Cathleen Martinni and brakewoman Janine Tischer of Germany were in fourth, just ahead of Calgarys Helen Upperton and Shelly-Ann Brown of Pickering, Ont.dddddddddddd Humphries won the last two races of the World Cup season at Whistler and in her hometown of Calgary. Ciochetti is working on becoming a sled pilot, but the 27-year-old from Edmonton returned to her former job as brakewoman for last weekendsmmerside, P.E.I., to win Olympic gold at the Vancouver Games. Moyse is taking the yeasecond run cost Meyers valuable time in the race for the gold. She trailed Humphries by 0.12 after the first heat. "I was sloppy -- late here, early there, a little flop here," said Meyers. "That really killed my huge advantage at the start. Im hoping to clean up the top of the track and get some more velocity." The first two heats of the mens two-man competition are Saturday morning. cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
