SOCHI, Russia -- Canada will not be adding a gold medal to its tally after the Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed an appeal that tried to disqualify three French medallists in the mens Olympic skicross. The Canadians, along with Slovenia, had accused the French team of changing the shape of the athletes ski pants for better aerodynamics. Rules prohibit uniform alterations for such purposes. Calgarys Brady Leman finished fourth in the final to Jean-Frederic Chapuis, Arnaud Bovolenta and Jonathan Midol of France in Thursdays competition. If Canada had won the appeal, Leman would have become the gold medallist. Slovenias Filip Flisar placed second in the small final and would have been bumped to bronze while Russia would have taken the silver. The sweep by Chapuis, Bovolenta and Midol was Frances first gold, silver and bronze in the same event at any Winter Olympics. He went 6-9 with a 5.32 ERA in 16 starts two years ago. Smith went 8-10 with a 4.76 ERA in 35 games, including 17 starts, during his time in Kansas City. He was 2-1 with a 3.24 ERA last year, with 43 strikeouts in 33 innings, pitching primarily in relief. Smith said Thursday that while he developed a slider to complement his fastball during relief work, "I am excited to get a shot back in the rotation."
