Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Villanova erased a five-point deficit over the final 17 seconds of regulation, and the seventh-ranked Wildcats eventually prevailed, 82-77, in overtime over Syracuse at Wells Fargo Center. In the closing moments, Josh Hart hit a 3-pointer to bring Villanova (11-0) within 69-67, and after stealing the ensuing inbounds pass, Jayvaughn Pinkstons layup tied the game with four seconds left. Pinkston led all scorers with 25 points and 10 rebounds and Darrun Hilliard added 23 points. Harts 21-point game was a career high. Once leading by as many as 15 points, the Orange (6-4) failed to put the hosts away. Rakeem Christmas and Michael Gbinije each paced Syracuse with 18 points before both fouling out in overtime. Kaleb Joseph chipped in 10 points with 10 assists for Syracuse. The Orange led by as much as 14 in the second half before a 10-0 Wildcats run brought them within four. Hilliard scored the first eight points to kick-start the spurt. Villanova never did quite take the lead in regulation though. Pinkstons three-point play cut its deficit to 63-62 with 1:14 left, but Christmas responded on the other end with a three-point play of his own. With 17 seconds left, Trevor Cooneys pair of free throws put the Orange up five and appeared to put the game away, but thats when Villanovas comeback began with Harts 3-pointer. The Orange were unable to successfully inbound the ball on the ensuing possession, and Villanova took advantage of the scramble. After Pinkston stole the ball in the corner, he cut to the basket and hit the tying layup with a pass from Ryan Arcidiacono and just four seconds on the clock. A wild 3-pointer from Gbinije was off the mark, and the game headed to overtime. Villanova took its first lead of the game a minute into the extra period on a pair of Hilliard free throws, and the Wildcats never trailed. Pinkstons layup in traffic with 1:23 left was their only field goal of overtime, but they went 11-of-12 from the charity stripe to secure the win. The Wildcats made 26-of-32 free throws in the game, and the Orange managed just 13 on 18 attempts. Villanovas typically stingy defense was no problem for Syracuse in the first half. The Orange shot 63 percent from the floor including 4-of-6 from long distance. Whenever the Wildcats inched closer, Syracuse responded with a run. After Villanova pulled within three halfway through the period, the Orange rattled off 10 straight points including a pair of 3s from Gbinije and Cooney. With two minutes to go before the break, a triple from Cooney and jumper from Tyler Roberson gave Syracuse its largest lead of the half at 15. Hilliards jumper at the buzzer cut that lead to 43-31 at the half. Game Notes Villanova avoided suffering its first defeat of the season to Syracuse for the second straight year ... Syracuse still leads the all-time series 38-34 ... The Wildcats improved to 2-0 in games played at Wells Fargo Center with three remaining ... Villanova had not trailed at halftime all season, and the 15 points was its largest deficit of the season... The Wildcats are 10-0 when scoring 70 or more points ... Villanova hosts NJIT on Tuesday while Syracuses next game is Monday against Colgate. Curtis Martin Womens Jersey . That performance leaves Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez with a tough decision. Hale allowed only two hits over eight innings in a performance that may not be enough to save his spot in Atlantas rotation and the Braves beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-1 on Saturday night. Back atop the NL West and with Chase Field buzzing again for the first time in years, the Diamondbacks are soaring in the desert air, enjoying every moment of their massive turnaround. Jets Jersey . The Reds decided they werent going to bring him back. Not after they ended the season with six losses in a row, including the wild-card playoff game.LAS VEGAS -- Nick Johnson scored 16 points, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson added 12 and Arizona ran away from tired Colorado in a dominating second half to rout the Buffaloes 63-43 in the Pac-12 tournament semifinals Friday night Unlike its last win over Colorado, Arizona (30-3) started slow, allowing the Buffaloes to keep it close at halftime. Playing its third game in as many days, Colorado had no chance at stopping the Wildcats once they got rolling, succumbing to Arizonas defensive pressure and string of highlight-reel plays. Arizona shot 60 per cent in the second half and held Colorado (23-11) to 5-of-22 shooting in the final 20 minutes to earn a spot Saturdays championship game against UCLA or Stanford. T.J. McConnell added 12 points, five assists and four rebounds for the Wildcats in front of a pro-Arizona crowd at MGM Grand Garden Arena that made it feel like McKale Center West. Askia Booker had 20 points to lead Colorado, which has a two-day wait to see if the NCAA tournament selection committee deems them worthy of the bracket. Arizona put on a show in its tournament opener, flexing its defensive muscles for everyone to see with an overwhelming quarterfinal victory over Utah. The Wildcats held the Utes to 13 first-half points, 39 overall, 12 field goals and 25 per cent shooting -- all tournament records. The 32-point margin also matched the largest in tournament history. Arizona pulled a similar smothering act on Colorado in the teams last meeting. After a 12-point loss in Tucson, Colorados Xavier Johnson proclaimed Arizona wasnt that good and that the Buffaloes would beat the Wildcats bby 20, even with leading scorer Spencer Dinwiddie out for the season.dddddddddddd. The Wildcats turned the slight into a fury, holding Colorado without a field goal for the opening 10 minutes and shooting 84 per cent in the second half an 88-61 win -- their first in Boulder since 1973. The Buffaloes got off to a better start this time, scoring 8 1/2 minutes sooner. Colorado still had trouble with Arizonas amoebic defence, though, going 10 of 29 from the floor in the first half. But the Buffaloes had something up their sleeve: A little defence of their own. Contesting shots and digging down on the post for steals, Colorado made life much more difficult than it had back in Boulder, allowing them to stay in the game. The Buffaloes held Arizona to 11-of-29 shooting and forced eight turnovers -- five by centre Kaleb Tarczewski -- that led to 11 points. Colorado held Arizona scoreless for over 4 minutes during a 10-2 run that helped the Buffaloes trim Arizonas nine-point lead to 27-24 at halftime. The second half looked more like the game in Boulder. Arizona picked up the defensive intensity even more and started pouring out the highlights to extend the lead. Johnson had one, flying in for a reverse alley-oop dunk and Hollis-Jefferson matched him with a tomahawk dunk over Josh Scott. Gordon provided one on the defensive end not long after that, soaring up for a clean swat on Johnsons one-handed dunk attempt that sent Arizonas fans bursting out of their seats. In just a couple of minutes, the Wildcats were up 51-32 thanks to a 13-0 run, well on their way to the Pac-12 title game.
